Elena Garre is a senior researcher in the Department of Laboratory Medicine at Sahlgrenska Center for Cancer Research (SCCR, Sweden), and part-time lead scientist in IscaffPharma. Her expertise includes broad background in molecular biology, RNA biochemistry and cellular biology. In 2018, she joined Professor Göran Landberg’s group at SCCR, where she is applying her previous knowledge in molecular biology to translational cancer research. Her research focuses on the study of interactions within the tumor microenvironment (TME) and their role in cancer progression. She has been involved in the validation of the new model system, patient-derived scaffold (PDS), for tumor microenvironment studies and testing existing and novel cancer treatments. Currently, she is fully responsible of the optimization of the PDS model for the study of cancer-immune cells interaction and the modulation of the immunotherapy response, with special interest in targeting the tumor-initiating and therapy resistant cancer stem cell subpopulation.
