Head of New Business Development Eppendorf, Germany
Abstract: Eppendorf is a leading life science company that develops and markets instruments, consumables and services for liquid, sample and cell handling in laboratories worldwide. Eppendorf's products are primarily used in academic and commercial research laboratories, e.g. in pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, as well as in applied areas and in healthcare.
Driving innovation is one of the primary strategic goals for Eppendorf and a key enabler for scientists to make the world a better place. The Eppendorf Innovation Company (EpIC) as part of the Eppendorf SE is looking for visionary business ideas and concepts as well as dedicated partners to make them come true.
Jochen Mueller-Ibeler will talk about where he sees new business opportunities and how the Eppendorf Innovation Company (EpIC) team works with the ecosystem to develop and build new businesses for the Eppendorf Group. He will explain why and how the EpIC was founded and how EpIC complements Eppendorf's innovation approach through external collaboration, business scouting, company evaluation and potential venture investments.
External collaborations and early investments in innovative start-ups will help to secure and support Eppendorf's future business success in a challenging VUCA world by opening up new, innovative business areas. Jochen will highlight the strategic ambitions in the core business, in adjacent areas, but also beyond, to successfully realize EpIC's goal of future business expansion, as well as to establish the corporate culture necessary to collaborate with start-ups.
He will also outline how leveraging a corporate VC fund can be an attractive innovation vehicle for new and existing companies as well as for Eppendorf, enabling synergies and thus strategic goals for both partners.
Finally, he provides insight into EpIC's organizational setup necessary for successful operations and describes the value-adding factors.
