Frank graduated in 2013 as an engineer with a master’s degree in Microengineering from the EPFL. During his studies, he was an exchange student at Polytechnique Montréal (Canada) and he did his master’s thesis at the Bauman Moscow Technical University (Russia), where he was involved in the design of attitude controls for miniature satellites. Frank obtained his Ph.D. in Robotics and Intelligent Systems from the EPFL in 2017. As his thesis, he developed a robotic framework to study the social behavior of fish, in particular the zebrafish (Danio rerio), with robots capable of integrating zebrafish shoals and influencing their behavior. For his thesis work, Frank received the George Giralt Ph.D. Award for Best Thesis in Robotics from the euRobotics Association in 2018. Since then, Frank has worked as a researcher in the Laboratory of Robotics Systems of the EPFL, where he managed the Bionomous project as well as other research projects. He is the primary inventor of the patented design offered by Bionomous, and is now CEO and co-founder of the company.
